The 99th PGA Championship, professional golf’s final major tournament of the year, wrapped up on August 13 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, NC. As it has since 2011, Swiss luxury watch brand Omega replica served as Official Timekeeper — and this year, also used the event to launch two new models in its Seamaster Aqua Terra Golf series, each devoted to one of Omega’s professional golf “ambassadors,” Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlRoy.
The new Aqua Terra Golf watches differ from their predecessors in the collection in several respects. Most obvious is the use of new, striped NATO straps where previous models have used a steel link bracelet or a calfskin leather strap — green and black for the Sergio Garcia model, a likely reference to the coveted green jacket that the Spaniard won at the 2017 Masters; and orange and black for the Rory McIlroy watch. (Omega replica watches debuted this style of five-striped NATO strap, made of polyamide, on the Seamaster 300 model worn by Daniel Craig as James Bond in the 2015 film Spectre.)
The other notable aesthetic difference is the more pronounced, horizontal “teakwood” motif on the dials, which are available in either sunbrushed black (on the Garcia watch, with green seconds hand and green numerals at 15, 30, 45, and 60 on the minute track) or silvery white (on the McIlroy model, with orange seconds hand and minute numeral). The date window, at 3 o’clock on previous Aqua Terra Golf luxury replica watches, has been moved to 6 o’clock. The hands and hour indices are filled with white Super-LumiNova — which means the watch remains legible even if your golf game is called on account of darkness.
